WE ALL DRAW OPEN SHOW sneak preview

We All Draw: Thinking Drawings

16_Alison Carlier_Image

5-8th November 2015

We invited practitioners who use drawing and sketching in their practice, to submit examples of ‘drawings that think’ to be exhibited at the Bargehouse, Southbank, London.

When do surgeons use drawing? How do science teachers use drawing? Why does the engineer use drawing? How can drawing be used as a social practice? Where do artists draw? Does drawing facilitate dialogue? Could a drawing resolve a dispute? Does drawing promote wellbeing? Can a drawing sing?

Parul writes that she ‘worked around the idea of “drawing as given” through the medium of light, and further extending them in the space through the medium of line.

Parul Gupta’s work focuses on the line and its relationship to formal and spatial negotiations within the architecture of built spaces. She will be presenting her series ‘Extending the Line’, a set of photographs, drawings on paper and on-site interventions that continue her experiments with the subtlety of bodily movement within the environments she constructs.

The Thinking through Drawing curriculum asked us to collaborate immediately. We came to realize that our shared insights into the power of drawing allowed us to reveal new dimensions of the process and new depth to the tool. The Superpower expanded, the understanding grew and the magic was shared . . . which is, of course, as it should be.
